Will the next update be near end of year (dec)? or early next year (feb)?

It won't be December, it would screw the holiday season over. Late January/February is the general consensus.

If it's going to be in 2009, it'll be before December, October or early November. It depends on Intel and Apple. Intel said that Arrandale is now in production and will be available in near future so if near future means few weeks or so, yes, we may see an update soon, but it also depends on Apple and are they ready to update it so soon. Generally, nobody knows, but time will show us...
