Hey guys and gals,

Just wanted to get all your opinions on this: When do you think the next update for the touch will be? Also, what do you think it will have? I am hoping the whole "add/edit calendar" bug fix comes out with the next update. Maybe even support for 802.1X wifi!

I'm guessing with the European release of the iPhone. Get everyone up-to-date with European software.

yes i think eventually everything will be flash....the classic will stay HD for a while but will eventually jump on the wagon as well

I think he was talking about the software since the touch already uses flash memory. As far as when the next update will be I think it will be fairly soon since they will want to break third party apps again and since thecurrent jailbreak method could also be a very bad security flaw if it was used for other purposes.

yea, i think it is going to be soon. Definitely before the SDK is released in February. Possible before the France iPhone.

when do you guys think they will upgrade the capacity of the flash drive? When they do upgrade it, would the logical number be 32 GB or what? What intervals do they go by in flash memory? Would it be 8 GB? 8Gb, 16GB, 24GB?, 32GB??????
Thanks in advance

Isn't it normally 8, 16, 32, 64, 128?
Although it'd probably be in a more round fashion, Maybe 30GB and 80GB?
Spring/Summer 2008 sounds plausible.

all use

How about some things we could all use? Like, "on the go playlists", calendar adds, playback bookmarks for audiobooks ... how about a way to scroll through long files? Ever try to rewind a few minutes during a 2 hour podcast? A PDF reader would be great too.

You mean 802.11n? That would require a hardware update. A firmware update won't do it.

No, I dont think so. I mean 802.1X, which I believe is different. The touch already has 802.11. Am I right?

I don't know if you own a touch already but you can already easily edit on the go playlists.

but do you guys think it likely that whenever he next update is (say March???) they will raise the capacity of the Flash Drive in the Touch?

Thanks in advance

My guess is a March update...

Might be a little too soon. iPods tend to be updated annually (iPod nano is a perfect example, full-size iPods roughly the same). If there was an update during late Winter/ early Spring, it would probably just be a small update e.g. better battery life, slight price drop, perhaps an HDD version to kill off the classic.

As for raising the capacity, I don't think so for March. 16 GBs is costing Apple roughly $150 per iPod touch just for the memory. I don't think flash prices are falling fast enough and the demand for 32 GBs is high enough for it yet. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the current 16 GB touch uses two 8 GB chips and two 16 GB chips would be significantly more expensive. But hey, I'd love to be proved wrong Apple ;)
