nextel phone and virtual pc

I have a i860 Nextel phone and Virtual PC 6.1 with Windows 2000... i am trying to hook up my phone to the virtual machine but can't get windows to recognize my phone, i have a usb data cable from nextel.... anyone have any ideas or know if for some reason it doesnt' work under virtual pc? i just want to download ring tones to my phone and use the media downloader to download the pictures i took off of my phone. any help would be appreciated. thanks
