Hi,

Does anybody know if its possible to emulate the NeXT OS on a Mac?

Thought it would be fun to play with. But Google hasn't helped much.

Thanks!

Found NeXT also on the link. But would it work on PPC. Or is the reason you said on an intel mac due to parallels requiring the intel platform only. IE parallels doesn't work on PPC macs.

Thanks

Re-Opening Thread

Since it has been 7 years since this thread was active, I was wondering if a NeXTStep emulator has shown up since. Thanks.

Why would there be updates on an emulator for an operating system that died 20 years ago? Seriously?

I used NexTStep way back when. And it was a nice system. Sure, I feel some nostalgia. But it isn't coming back.

If you want your NeXTStep jollies, become a Mac Developer and smile each time you use classes starting with "NS". All of them. That's why the Cocoa classes are called that. Put your Mac Dock on the right side. That's very NeXT-ish as well.

There's no need, or desire by people to use, program for or produce the NexXTstep emulator at this point. Its dead.

Why shouldn't there? There are even updates on emulators for systems that died much longer ago.

OpenSTEP 4.1 (the successor to NextSTEP) works well in VMWare Fusion. Haven't tried NextSTEP, but I suspect it would do fine too.
