After a quick search on Swappa, Ebay, and Craigslist, it's crazy how ppl are selling N5's at full price USED!

Can anyone explain this?

The long lead times to get one from Google Play and the lack of availability overseas.

@JH- alright, that makes sense. Although, Play store shows the black as available.

Nonetheless, thats good for N5 owners looking to sell; sucks for ppl trying to buy a used one :p

I ordered the 32 gb version (blk) a couple of days ago. It won't leave the warehouse before the 7th..I bet there are plenty of folks that won't want to wait that long..

Don't hold it past August. Google will drop the prices and resell will tank.

Also the vast majority of nexus 5 are sold "full price" and generally to techies in the USA. They value their phone prices at a certain $350-400.

It's not like many regular folks who think they got iPhone 5S for $199 and willing to off load it for $400. Because the perceived value isn't $650 to most common people.

I actually find nexus devices are a bear to sell. This obviously comes from owning a lot of iphones and those sell within 10 minutes of posting. The two phones I had the hardest time selling were the n5 and the moto x. The moto x I had to sell on swappa b.c I got 0 hits on craigslist.

I never figured this out. Even when the Play store showed plenty of stock and availability I still saw N5 prices equal or quite often MORE than the stock price. There is really no rhyme or reason to it. Maybe it's a case of more international buyers since it's an unlocked phone, but do they really get it that much quicker than if they just buy from Google?

It is not because people ask full price for used devices that transaction price is eventually similar...
New 32 GB Nexus 5 is at 400 EUR in France, I would not buy a used one for more than 250-300 EUR. In few months it will be "obsolete" already

It's because you are mainly dealing with techies. And techies who want a good deal (from a buyer stand point)

If I was were in market for used nexus 5 16gb I probably would pay more than $275 for it and a used 32gb wouldn't want to pay more than $300 for it.

But techies who buy nexus have their cost basis of $350(or $399) plus shipping plus taxes included. So they will try to say well it cost me $450 for the 32gb nexus 5. And want to sell it for $400.

I guess that does make sense. Especially since most of the phones on Swappa are in flawless condition. You are basically getting a new phone at a discount.

recently sold mine for more than it costs retail (excluding tax, so technically that's cheaper, and not much more), but looking at the google play store, it frequently has long shipping times. that may be a factor.

The play store's notification is a bit off..I ordered mine a few days ago when it mentioned that it would leave the facility on the 7th, yet it apparently shipped last night..Obviously not as fast as say an overnight delivery from ebay :)..
