Ever since I started using OS X, I have always used the very easy to use http server to host little files and stuff I need to send to people through email or IM. However, I have found lately that I am spending more time in XP on my 24" iMac so I am looking to get a little machine I can hide in a cupboard somewhere and use to drop files onto over the network.
I could use my TiBook when I am in XP, but generally that is closed when I am on the iMac. I have a IIci running System 7 and a Quadra 650 running Debian potato, but these are not ideal - no ethernet on the IIci and the Quadra is a bit noisy.
I like older hardware and am very familiar with all sorts of operating systems. I'd love a dual CPU BeBox but the prices of those are insane, if you can even find one in the first place. So I am looking at all sorts of machines on eBay right now. And NeXT hardware...argh.
Requirements:
1) Must be quiet, as it will be hidden away in a wardrobe in my bedroom but always on.
2) Must be capable of running Apache or come with a basic http server.
3) Can be any hardware at all, but must be cheap. £100 at the very very most.
4) Doesn't use OS X or Windows. They are too "easy". Think SGI or Sun Sparc or something! It can be x68 hardware, if I can then install BeOS on it.
5) Would be nice if it looked sexeh, like the SGI O2 workstation.
