Look cool but on the photos that we've seen the leaks have the button to appear to be protruding out and flat. But personally I prefer this mockup looks more like apple.

I predict that it'll look the same as the iPhone 5. A hidden fingerprint reader within the concave button. I think the alleged photos of the iPhone 5S packaging is faked. Just a hunch.

what exactly does that ring do?

According to Apples patent a metal ring is used as a capacitive touch sensor which will enable the fingerprint sensor.

This is likely to allow you to activate the FP sensor without pressing the home button itself so it can be used in apps without returning you to the home screen.

yeah I agree with that, I even doubt that there will be fingerprint reader. It seems more logical to add these new things to iPhone 6.
