So, I just received my NiGHTS on PS2 this morning (imported from Play-Asia), and I've gotta say, THIS IS WHAT NIGHTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE WII!!!
This is a faithful port/conversion. Not only is the "new dream" a remarkable re-texturing of the original saturn version, but the PS2 controller just makes it feel like home! 480p + widescreen makes it much better than the original Saturn version. Runs at a brisk 30 fps, with no slowdowns. The videos have been completely remastered and look much smoother than the blocky Saturn game. The only gripe I seem to have with it is that there are some minor pop-ins in some parts that weren't in the original Saturn game.
BUT, if you're inclined to, you can always play the "original saturn dream", which is just the original game with all the old textures, etc. Otherwise known as pixelation-mania.
It is the same old Saturn version though!
I wish they wouldn't have screwed up Journey of Dreams...They had such a great formula going on, and screwed it all up. This was, and at foremost, A RACING GAME! I wonder if they put more time into porting the PS2 version than completing the Wii version.
Anyway, if you've played the original Saturn game, then you'll be happy if you got this version of the game. Too bad it isn't coming out in the US...Sega is stupid they should just release this game here too! Especially since the PS2 has such a big installed base...
