iPod Nike + Challenge Deadlines

I had a question about challenges on the Nike + website...

If the person you challenge fails to upload their run data by the end of the challenge deadline do you win by default? Or can they upload their run data after the deadline as long as their run data is stored on their ipod and the run was recorded before the deadline?
