Just ahead of the launch of the Nike+ Apple Watch Series 3 models, which will be available starting this Thursday, Nike has updated its official Nike+ Run Club app with new functionality that was highlighted on stage during Apple's September event.

On both iPhone and Apple Watch, Nike+ Run Club is gaining Audio Guided Runs, which are a series of guided workouts from Nike coaches and athletes like Mo Farah and Kevin Hart. Runs are paired with a playlist that can be used with streaming music services.

Audio Guided Runs can be accessed on Apple Watch by opening the Nike+ app on the watch and then scrolling down under the Start button. Runs will need to be downloaded on the watch ahead of time.

Along with Audio Guided Runs, Nike is introducing a "Cheers" feature that lets users notify their friends when they go for a run to get cheers in response for motivation. There's also an updated Activity History feature on Apple Watch that displays the details of the last five runs, and on Apple Watch Series 3 models, elevation data is now available on standalone watch runs.

The Nike+ Run Club app can be downloaded on the iPhone and all Apple Watch models, but with Nike+ models, there's an option to launch the Nike+ Run Club app from the exclusive Nike watch faces.

Nike+ Run Club is available from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

About damn time. The Watch wouldn't properly mirror my iPhone since I installed iOS 11.

Still doesn't (WatchOS 4 / iOS 11) with Messages/iMessage (maybe different when iMessage in iCloud comes forth). There are a few discreptancies on AW but I think Apple staff are NOT fully "USING" the Apple Watch fully to it's potential vs 'wearing it for style'.

Still misses the mark by not showing both current pace and average pace on the display. Workout app still better unless you want the people talking to you I guess.

Wait wth? I had no idea it doesn’t do that. I’m so used to Garmin showing current pace per mile, distance, time at once. I didn’t know Nike wasn’t using the same template. Really thinking about either running with two watches on my wrist (Garmin and AW Nike series when it comes) OR just throwing the watch in a small pocket and using it during runs for music, Apple Pay, emergency texts/calls

It does show those...errr used to just fine in WatchOS 3 & iOS 10..but since the latest update things have been super wonky and all out of wack. Hopefully this app update realigns everything in proper working order.

I was a long time Garmin user and made the switch 4 mo the ago to the series 2 Watch. The workout app shows both and is very accurate. I even wore my garmin for the first couple of weeks to check.

I like the features of the Nike app, including the analysis you can do on the computer. The run data shows everything when you’re done, but until they show current pace and average pace on the same screen I won’t go back.

So now you’re back to Garmin?

I was having issues with my Nike+ Watch and RunClub app after OS4 and ios11. Talked to Nike support on the phone and got reply next day asking me to hard reboot both watch and phone (they called it soft reboot - in any case it’s when you hold down 2 buttons til device resets and Apple logo appears).

Thus fixed my issues - which were app crashing and inconsistent mile tracking - related to gps they said.

You mean like this? Or the screen where you pause a run in the NRC app?

The number on the bottom right is TIME, not current or average pace. Currently you can only have either current pace, or average pace while the workout is in progress. It does show the average pace when you pause and it also announces it at 1 mile intervals. I just want to see it on the same screen during the run with current pace.

Hmmm had the same issues but they are gone with the new update

My Nike series 3 Watch was shipped today to deliver tomorrow. Good to know they are updating the app ahead of time.

Sorry to hear - mine has been very solid the last two runs since the update - it even updates the monthly km run properly now - something it never did in the old app
