I got this band with my S10 and use it only for sports (I wear the sport loop band the rest of the time). Last week, I noticed that the band had developed a sticky, shiny feeling on most of its surface, but not on the inner side. At first, I thought I had spilled something on it (like soda), but I wasn’t t able to clean it off. Now I think it might be peeling some outer coating.

Apple replaced it, but I still want to know what caused it, if it was defective or if I did something wrong.

I don’t do water sports, haven’t taken it to the beach, and only clean it with water to remove sweat. I don’t remember spilling anything on it.

Has anyone else noticed something similar with their bands?

I have worn apple sport bands (not Nike tho) on my Apple Watch every day since the Series 0, and none of them have ever shown this issue.

I haven’t seen this at all. I’ve gotten the Nike short bands with all 3 generations of watches that I’ve had (2, 5, & 10). My new series 10 is the small (42mm) size but the 2 and 5 were the larger size. I’ve DIY'd my series 2, large 42mm SB to fit the series 10 small 42mm casing - I use that band for workouts, doing yard work, etc. to preserve the new band in pristine condition. I still have the series 5 that I sometimes wear when the new watch is charging.

I’ve found that there Nike SBs clean very easily.

What PhotoP said above, only used Nike Sports since my 2018, cycling/hiking/swimming/comp. shooting & sev. K of miles running/walking w/ ZERO issues.

The replacement started doing the same in less than two days, so apple has replaced it for a sport loop.

Bit late to this party, recently picked up two of the new Nike Sport bands direct from Apple. My immediate thought when opening was the reduction in quality and quality control. No longer a 'two piece' design where the inset color on the old design appeared seperate and was then moulded together, the new design has the inset color overlayed. This meant the holes on the originals were perfect shape, uniform without issue, the new ones being overlayed on the base color are not aligned 100% and I suspect may be prone to wear longer term. The stainless pin is now gone and replaced with alloy variant. But the biggest thing I noticed is the lack of flexibility compared to the previous generations, significant difference, new ones are more rigid and less pliable.

I also found the distribution of the chopped recycled band pieces is not great, collected around the rear of the band, less showing on the front, not even close to the Apple website images. Very dissapointing, plan to return both of mine now.

I'm sorry, but for the price, these new bands are a joke honestly, even at half the listed price they look poor. The previous bands which I've owned for years are vastly superior and far more comfortable due to their improved pliability.
