Has anyone tried the latest 2.0x Nikon TC (TC-20E III I think it is) with the 70-200mm F/2.8 VR II Nikon lens?

I'm tossing up between a 2.0x TC or the new 80-400mm VR lens as method of getting more range for certain types of photos in a package that doesn't cost the earth, and is fairly compact (which is really important).

I'm interested in sharpness at full zoom and VR performance.

Yes, I use that combo regularly.

Certainly you lose sharpness (and 2 stops) but I find it an acceptable tradeoff, especially when I need that 400 mm reach.

If you want to PM me, I'll link you to some images -- I was just working with that combo this morning.

You'll get much better results with the TC2.0 and the 70-200/2.8VR than you will with the 80-400 by itself.

I like it....

I use my 70-200f2.8 VRII with a 2.0 teleconverter very often, and my images are acceptably sharp for my purposes --- until I can afford a 300 f2.8, or the rumored 300f4 VRII:

ETA: I am using the new 2.0xiii

Thank you all - you've given me a few things to think about. I might try the 2.0x TC. :)

I may also be able to use it with the 200-400mm F/4.0 as well as long as I stop it down.
