NimbleBit's 'Tiny Tower Vegas' Now Available Worldwide

The sequel to NimbleBit's popular free-to-play tower building game Tiny Tower is now available for download worldwide after soft launching in several countries earlier this summer. Tiny Tower Vegas incorporates the same tower building gameplay found in the original game, melding it with several Las Vegas-themed mini games like poker and slot machines.

As in the previous game, the idea is for players to continually build up and manage a tower filled with various businesses that generate coins. Like many free-to-play titles, Tiny Tower Vegas includes various countdown timers for functions like restocking floors, which can be sped up with the use of real life currency.

Tiny Tower Vegas can, however, be played without investing any real money. There are three types of currency in the game: coins, bux, and poker chips. Coins are earned from the tower's occupants, while bux are won from the included gambling mini games, which are played using poker chips. While poker chips can be purchased in app, there are also continual mini events in the game that reward players with the currency.

The game includes several tower customization options and features that were available in the original Tiny Tower, including a BitBook with funny status updates, elevator upgrades, and multiplayer options that allow users to visit friends' towers and team up with other users in the Players Club.

I'm a bit unimpressed with Nimblebit for the way they abandon their games like Tiny Deathstar and NimbleQuest.

To be fair, DeathStar might have been Lucas' fault. It was a decent Tiny Tower clone - it started off rather payment heavy (much more difficult to earn Bux), and it just became worse from there, what with the increasing push towards purchases and terrible quest rewards.

Really? I should rethink my life because I enjoy (for the most part anyhow) Nimblebit's tower games? You're on a site that peddles conflicting rumors every other day. Is that really what you want to say?

Edit: Just tried it out, although it seems like Bux are now easier to make (you can play slots to win them using a third currency, poker chips), actions requiring Bux are also much more expensive. Upgrading a floor now costs 20 Bux. Upgrading the elevator speed is now in increments of FPS (floors per second). The first upgrade is 0.25FPS at a cost of 200 Bux. Yikes.

Edit2: Elevator upgrades spike in costs, but FPS remain the same. Level 2 upgrade: 0.25FPS for 313 Bux. Hooray?

Two TouchArcade articles in my RSS feed weren't enough to promote this game? MacRumors had to start pimping it to? How can any other developer get some of that sweet, sweet publicity.
 
I played the Star Wars one and while it was cute, for the life of me I couldn't figure out why anyone called it a 'game'.

There is no game, you just wait, do exactly as you're told, maybe make an utterly vacuous choice between a couple of options, then wait some more. Being a player of (the original!) Sim City I kept waiting for something to happen to jeopardise my ever increasing income, but nothing ever did. You're just given stuff and you collect it. There's absolutely no obstacle other than the waiting.

It was like playing Pacman in slow motion without the ghosts.
 
Shameless (bad) copy of the original "Yoot Tower" (also known as SimTower by Maxis, for which Yoot Tower is the sequel).

The official Yoot Tower is also available as iPad app (although not yet updated for Retina).
 
So I played it. It's actually really nice how they made this about not only building up the tower, but playing mini games too.

Each little mini game costs you one chip, and some of them are poker based, others are slots. It's definitely a game for the older crowd and not so much kiddos because of these games.

Chips are easily obtainable by doing the quests, you get three for each one. Your chances of winning bux are pretty good too, and if you have them, the coins are not as important.

I liked the Windows Phone tile they had for Tiny Death Star. I hope they make iOS 8 widgets with the same info/stats, it'd be really nice for people that play their games.

This is how you're going to introduce yourself to this forum, having just joined (for the first time?) last month? Sadly, that arrogance and aura of superiority is rife on this forum, but that makes it neither welcome nor right.

I'm probably going to give this Tiny Tower a miss, I spent many a rather enjoyable hour building my Star Wars: Tiny Death Star to 79 levels with 115 bitizens, amazingly without spending any money (something I feel a bit guilty about given the amount of fun I had playing and the amount of time I spent in the game).

If you like Vegas (who doesn't?!?!) and haven't played one of these yet, or you like any of the others Tiny Tower games, I think this is a must play game.

You have a point. Trust me mate, the addiction I have towards tower games on the mobile platform (such as Fieldrunners 2) is near concerning. :eek: Game on!

The game is rated 12+, and it is noted that there is simulated gambling, mild alcohol, tobacco, or drug use. The note is there, it's the parents choice if they want to enforce it or not, and if they don't care, then that's not Apple's or the developer's fault.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has slots, so does a few Super Mario games, it's not like this is something that kids haven't seen. Heck, I was stuffing quarters all the time in machines when I was a kid, and I still do. Sometimes it's a pinball machine or game of sort, or sometimes it's a slot machine.

Would I place my kids in front of a slot machine if I had any? Yes, if it's allowed by the place.

You have to teach them to be responsible with money, and they have to understand that the machines exist to make someone money, and that someone is not them. Too many people go to a casino with the idea that they're going to be able to make their next rent payment or win the big jackpot, when what you really need to be doing is going there to relax and have some responsible fun.

I'd of course let them play on arcade machines before I'd go that far though.

No, but this is a computer game with fake money, not Vegas. When I was a kid I had the original Intellivision. The pack-in game was Casino or something like that, but it was blackjack & various poker games. It's actually how I learned the basics of poker. But we kids didn't go around school setting up real games.

Honestly, the arcades in the 80s were more wasteful than any slot machine I've sunk coin in. Slots are boring though, so don't worry about kids getting hooked.
