nMP HDMI out and FCPX

Am I wrong for thinking that I could plug in an HDMI monitor/TV to my mac pro and get a preview (full size) of the output. (i.e. what the viewer has in the old 7 days) and still be able to have the small window on my monitor? Or will I need to use something like a Matrox MXO2 mini?

Nope, you are not wrong! You can get a preview on a monitor without using a third party device.
