Just got the 3GS at the at&t store, via adding a new line. Girlfriend gets the old 3G. Had at&t do a sim swap (actually I think they gave me a new sim for my main line, which they then put into the 3GS) and then gave me the sim from the 3GS to put into the 3G.

I'm now noticing that although the 3G can make/receive calls just fine with the new sim, the "signal type" indicator doesn't show. i.e., I have full bars, but no 3G or E indicator at the top left.

Anyone seen this before or had this situation?

The only time this has happened to me is when my parents "accidently" got rid of my data plan but i doubt thats the issue.

have you tried visiting a website via safari? does it say something like "cant access cellular network data?

Ah that's exactly it - must be the new sim isn't activated for data? Ugh, another trip back to the at&t store...
