iPhone No ability to pause, no song data, no song time etc?

I was attempting to listen to music while I worked on class stuff, and I noticed that it was behaving like I was listening to the radio, not my music. This has happened before, but never for as long as it had this time. I had begun to worry that they had changed something. Essentially, there was no way to tell anything about any of the music I was listening to. Nor could I pause it, nor could I change tracks everything was greyed out and a "live" symbol appeared. What does it mean when this happens? The only way out of it was to exit out of the music app and go back again, but it would happen once more.

It sounds like some sort of glitch. I haven't heard about it before.
