I've never owned an iPad, so my impressions are not tinged by buyer's remorse, being upset with Apple, or the fact that I purchased one or the other.
Admittedly, I only spent about 10 minutes with each, walking back and forth between the two.
But what I can say is what you might gather in the aggregate of all 400000 posts about each:
-The mini-screen is not terrible, and is fine for most purposes. The difference isn't as shocking as some make it seem (and I look at an iPhone 5 screen every day).
-The 4 is not THAT heavy, even after holding the mini
I really don't think I could go "wrong" with either.
I will probably get a 4. Not because of the screen resolution, but because the screen size suits me
