Is this normal?

I have the Apple Mail icon on the Infograph watch face. And when I get a new email, the watch does not alert me in any way. Anyone else experience this? I would like to get haptic feedback and or a notation on the watch face icon, that there is new mail, similar to when you have unread messages on the Infograph face it shows how many are unread.

If I use the Canary Mail watch app, (icon not on face) the watch notifies me of new mail.

Edited to add: I just checked the Modular Face, and I don't get any mail alert as well. Very strange that the default mail app doesn't alert to new mail on the watch.

It should at least give you a notification. I don’t know if the icon shows an unread count like iMessage does. Make sure your mail app notifications are on for both phone and watch.

Maybe (partly) this?

Watch App (on phone) —-> Mail —-> Tap your email address(es) and chose the relevant sound and haptic feedback you want.

Also, to add, the mail complication does not change in any way to let you know there are unread emails (unlike the messages one). God(c) knows why...Apple and their increasing lack of uniformity.

Are you on iOS 13? Perhaps this is tied to the ongoing Mail issues?
Yea, I am on the latest public release.

Thanks for the replies. I went into notifications and turned on custom and made sure sound and haptic was turned on for each account. It worked for one test email and haven't been able to duplicate.

I like reading emails on the watch, as I can easily scroll through many of them, versus being limited to 5 emails with Canary and the like.

Edited to add: It seems the watch is the last to get mail with the Apple app. I don't get the haptic or sound alert or get the onscreen notification unless I manually open the mail app.

I'm on 12.4.1 because I won't upgrade to 13 with the mail issues it's having now. I have all sounds turned off and run my watch with haptic feedback only.

When I get mail on the phone, I get haptic feedback and banner, I don't use Mail on any of the watch faces. I'm not sure if changing your settings to something similar would help or not? Looking at the settings you noted, they are almost identical to what I have, except for the sound.

It runs in my mind that when Watch OS 5 came out and the infographic watch faces were first released, there were issues with some of the complications updating. Perhaps there are issues with Watch OS 6 as well? It wouldn't surprise me if this were the case and add to this, the issues folks are having with iOS 13 and Mail.
