Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! 
Is it the Cyber Acoustic USB headset? The mic doesn't work although I can hear.
I using the headset on a ibook g3 running OS 10.2.8. I think the system prefs are set right, for both input and output the sound is set to unknown audio USB device.
Did notice .... that when internal microphone is selected, it had settings to adjust; the USB headset doesn't.
I'm installing ViaVoice but cannt finish setup cause it wants a external microphone.
I've tried the same headset on my XP windows machine and it works.
The one page instructions says its compatible with XP and Mac OS 10.1
