Hi everyone, I am "refurbishing" a 2012 MacBook Pro 13" (non-retina) as a gift for a friend and have installed 2 SSD's (one for macOS, one for Windows 10) and 16GB RAM. I'm running into an issue with the audio that I can't seem to find the fix for by searching.

When booting, the chime is loud and clear. In Windows, the audio works perfectly fine. BUT...in macOS, where I've tried fresh installs of both Catalina and Mojave, the "Internal Speakers" do not show up in System Preferences. This does NOT appear to be the dreaded headphone jack issue - there is no red light, and it seems to switch on/off from headphones just fine. But when unplugging them, it goes to Digital Out instead of Internal Speakers. I have went ahead and tried to clean the port and nothing changes there.

So, with it working in W10 and at boot, it would have to be a software issue, right? Is this still somehow the headphone jack issue, but a more serious fault that cleaning/triggering the sensor can't fix?

I can keep trying other versions of macOS, but if I have to do a logic board repair or replacement, I am probably going to sell it as-is and go for a cheap retina model. Swapping the board is a piece of cake but I doubt I can find one cheap enough to warrant skipping over a retina model. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
