I diligently backed up my iPhone 8+ yesterday and updated the phone to iOS 12 and Series 3 watch to watchOS 5.

Today I unpaired the old watch and setup the new phone. When I try to pair the new Series 4 watch, I don't see any backups at all for the Series 3 - but I do see backups for my old SS Series 0 watch!

I stopped the process and tried to re-pair the Series 3 watch, but even that watch now only shows the old Series 0 backups!

I thought all I had to do was backup my phone and my watch backups would be set. I am an active runner, and losing all my activity history is VERY uncool.

Not sure this is anything but venting, but on the off chance anyone can suggest something, or tell me what I did wrong, I guess I'm all ears.

You have to unpair your watch so it backs up to the iPhone it's currently paired with. Then you need to back up the iPhone and restore that backup onto the new iPhone.

That's what I did wrong.

I'm going to try backing up the 8+ again today (after unpairing) and then use that newer backup to restore to my XS Max.

EDIT TO ADD: It looks like that worked. Impatient to have to start over downloading all my apps, but totally worth it of course! Thank you LiemTa!

Also having this problem, no longer have the iPhone which used to be paired to the Apple Watch.

I have a backup from this iPhone, but when I restore this backup to my new phone my S3 is still showing no backups available.

Weirdly enough, as above I can see backups from my S0 Watch from last year.

Guess I'm out of luck.

EDITED to add - I am assuming this is to do with running the WatchOS 5 beta all summer but not sure.

Thanks....I had the same problem...somehow skipped over the fact that I had to backup again after unpairing watch. I am just going to start over new with the watch though...cause it has taken all afternoon to get my 10XS max up and running.
