I don't put a lot of faith in benchmarks, but I do put a lot of faith in real world usage and I have to say that the performance of this Macbook is quite good.
Reference machines:
2014 MBP 15" i7, 1TB, 16 gig
2015 MBP 13" i7, 512gig, 16 gig
2014 MBA 13" i7, 512gig, 8 gig
So I do mostly development work on my laptops in all kinds of places. I'm never without a laptop even on my night out because we get email support requests on a regular basis and you never know when you might have to post an update.
I work mostly in XOJO and Filemaker. I do a lot with Office 2011 and Pages, but I don't consider those development work.
My impressions are that this 1.2/512gig/8gigs is at least as fast as my MBA. It certainly feels as responsive and compiles just as quickly. Loading and running compiled applications is imperceptibly slower than the MBP and equivalent to the MBA.
I thought I would have to relocate this Macbook to non intensive things like email, office, etc., but I feel right at home doing development work on it.
I've set the screen size to scaled 1440 X 900 which provides adequate screen real estate and the panel on this Macbook is remarkably sharp. I got out my MBA last night and used it for a short while and came to the conclusion that it was blurry and difficult to use... so much so that I'm either going to sell it or give to one of my granddaughters.
I received my USC-C to HDMI cable today (ordered from the Google store) so I'll get a chance to hook it up to an external monitor this weekend and see how that works.
Right now the only complaint I "had" was not being able to use migration assistant to transfer my data from my MBP, but thanks to a very fast external hard drive and the USB-C to USB-A cable I ordered with my Macbook, it wasn't that bad.
