No commitment iPhone purchase at the Apple store?

Will I be able to purchase an iPhone 3GS at a no commitment price at the Apple store this Friday, or does the transaction have to be completed through AT&T?

If your already a att wireless customer, you will be able to buy one at no commit price. That or the 399/499 price early upgrade price. At least thats what att told me.
