For work, we have an isolated network (no connection to the world). there is an app we can use to control other stuff on that network.
in iOS 6, it appears that when you connect to a wifi network, it checks to see if there is a connection to the web (i'm guessing by pinging an apple page), since we don't have that, the wifi icon never shows up at the top of the screen.
it shows connected in the wifi settings screen, we get an IP, and I can ping that IP from my laptop on the private network.
the app will give a no network connection error on boot.
the app on the iphone (or ipad) running 6 never sees the console.
tried two different fives, a 4 (or 4s) and an ipad2
I've tried putting the phone in airplane mode, and then turning wifi on, that also doesn't work.
someone had a 4 or 4s running some version of iOS 5, and it connected right away (wifi icon in title bar and able to connect from the app).
does anyone have any clues as to how i can make the phone know the connection is valid?
tomorrow when i'm back at work i will try setting the Http proxy setting to auto as has been suggested as clearing up some problems with wifi.
I remember discussion of the wifi+cellular switch in on of the iOS6 betas, that apparently didn't make release, i'm guessing that would clear up the problem.
if you're curious, i do theatrical lighting, and this is a remote app to control the console. the main backbone of the network is ethernet based.
so we really don't want that network available to the rest of the world.
