No contacts on iMac but visible on iPad

OSX Mavericks

Hello, just looked at my ‘Contacts ‘ to find it shows no cards.
The left hand column shows
iCloud
All contacts

Smart Groups
Last Import

but no contacts

In mail I have all my email addresses as normal.


Odd but on my iPad all of my contacts are being displayed.

How can i get these onto my iMac?

Many possible causes;

- are you linked to the same accounts

- are the addresses on local on the iPad

- if you are linked to the right account, is the password entered correctly

- some old versions of OSX/iOS will not work anymore, is this your case

- is there a small text at the top of the window saying updating (in this case wait)

- is the network working

- and others...

I would none the less recommend you ensure you have a backup of your address book.
