No controls when hooked up to HDTV

I had my old black macbook hookuped up at my parents house using a mini DVI to hdmi cord. It showed up fine on my dad's samsung tv but it wont show up back on my vizio.

Well it shows up as if everything is normal on the tv (dock is there, icons, no mouse though) but nothing shows up on my macbook except the background...

Im so confused...any help?

If you go to the display preferences you can drag the menu bar from the HDTV monitor icon back to your Macbook. Basically the computer thinks the HDTV is the primary monitor when it seems like you want the Macbook to be the primary monitor.
