NO cure even after SIM change,,, help plzzzz

Hi
I have an unlocked phone in india , vodafone network. I am having 2 problems even after getting a new sim.

1) I cant receive any msg. i can send them. but i dont receive any of them. Wat do i do.

2) When i call, i dont hear anything at the other end. I have to switch on the loud speaker and switch it off again to hear the other person..

Allthough i'm not in india, i do have voda.... and i've noticed the following:

1. I can only receive messages from senders who send with a number. any sender who uses a name to identify itself is just dropped. For instance, vodafone sends you a text message when you have new voicemail, this text is sent by 'voicemail' and is dropped by the iphone.
you can bypass this (at vodafone in NL) but that's a different story

2. I've read reports about bad speaker output (www.hacktheiphone.com) wrote about it on several occasions... no current fix available. But to upgrade to 1.1.1. which isn't an option as we speak.
