No deleted items show up in Trash can

I have MacBook Pro. When I delete a file it now asks every time for my password. Nothing shows up in trash can. I've checked IPhoto, IMovie and nothing in either. When I click on empty trash you hear a click.
I'm having trouble editing in Premiere and hoping this will resolve that problem also.
