Anyone else surprised that Apple did not give a release date for Leopard?

Or even more surprised that they didn't offer Leopard free to new Mac purchasers from today onwards? Isn't this something they usually do?

The two used to usually go hand in hand. Once they set a release date, they usually give announce that a discount will be given towards the OS for those people that order between the announcement and the actual release date.

No announcement, hence no discount.

Yeah, a date would have been nice, but without a date they can;t exactly offer a discount. I'm still going to be holding off buying my new MBP until the date is officially announced and a discount (or lack thereof) is confirmed.

more so, the announcement of a release date usually happens within a month of the actual release. so no, i'm not surprised a release date wasn't announced.
