My airport extreme is connected to the internet but the amber light is flashing and the AirPort utility status :No DNS Server

It means that the router can't connect to your ISP's servers. Your internet connection is probably down.

Try switching to Google DNS or OpenDNS. I have Time Warner cable and their DNS servers are notorious for going down and giving the appearance of no internet connection.

I've had fewer issues since switching.
