Can anyone tell me what it means?

There is no apple symbol just this no exit cross on the grey start up screen

have you installed any Mac OS X Updates or firmware?

try these:

Reset PRAM:
You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously: Command Option P R
immediately at start up, it will chime once then do a restart, keep holding until you hear a second chime.

if not, Press and hold X immediately at start up to try a force boot of OSX

Otherwise:

Thanks.

I reloaded OSX last night. It's a new mpb and I haven't put all my files on it yet so it didn't take too long to get it back to how it was.

Thank you for your help.

Great to hear it was that painless for you, but I suppose this is a good time to throw in a friendly reminder to get a backup routine started now (unless you already have one)- before you need it! ;) You didn't have anything on there yet thank goodness, but think how it would feel if you had and did not have it backed up. Like they say, it is not a question of if a hard drive will fail, but when!

Already bought one after getting my mbp. Thanks for the advice and help! :)
