I am aware that this is a well documented issue, but it sounds like most users have the issue that they get external sound AND internal speaker sound at the same time. Most people quote http://wiki.onmac.net/index.php/Users/Drivers and to use the driver here which will disable the internal speakers and leave you with just the externals via headphone jack.
I have one of the new MBP 17's and never get any sound from the headphone jack with either the original or the Sigma drivers listed above. Some even say to update direct from the WDM folder - and tried that.
So I am guessing that the 17 is slightly different from the 15 and the other Intel Macs in this respect???
I am gutted as music is my #1 critical thing, and I bought this unit just to run Windows XP. So would love to hear from anyone that has external sound on a 17 either with or without the internal speakers working (I'll rip 'em out if that is the solution).
