iPod No Firewire?

with all the new 5G iPod owners in the market, could anyone test the firewire support? i find it sad that apple would abandon their original transfer standard for something that only comes on newer computers. if any of those old iPod users would mind using their old FW cable and seeing if it recognizes/ transfers, i would appreciate it.
