Seems weird they didn’t mention it at all. Usually there’s always some kind of upgrade for the front camera.

I was going to create a new thread about this topic. Why Apple is not giving the importance required to front facing camera?? I use selfie camera a lot, today in a restaurant, two ago in a live concert, etc

Of couse the rear cameras are important and each year we´re closer to can leave DSLR cameras at home when traveling. But again, front facing is key for FaceTime (more capabilities in iOS 15) and selfies when you can’t ask someone to take the photo for you. Since 11 models when wider angle was included, no changes have been added (except software bonus as night mode/HDR 4).

Maybe reviews of 13 models surprise us on tuesday but I’m not optimistic about that…

Given that Apple is expected to eliminate the notch next year, they might not want to put much effort in enhancing the front camera system if the technology doesn't carry over.

I was researching this today. There have not been any hardware changes to the selfie camera since 11 Pro came out. All the improvenrnts over the last two years rely on software and the CPU.

Which is kinda impressive because it beats the 40megapixel front camera of the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

From the Verge review of new iphones: “My main wish is that the selfie camera sensor had been updated. It has some software improvements just like the other cameras and it’s inside a smaller notch now, but the selfie camera is too important for Apple to just leave the same this many years in a row.”
