Just got off the phone with local ATT store and rep told me that only way to get a Gold iPhone is to order it direct, as NO ONE will have any supply available to tomorrow.

Said they pulled the gold production to ramp up the black and white.

Tried to confirm with Apple Store and they are useless.

Anyone else hear this??

yes, just look at about 4-5 threads before yours.

to add, I can bet my current iPhone 5 that the "rep" doesn't know what the whole nation will get in supply when it comes to apple. not much you can do but wait until tomorrow morning.

I can highly doubt apple will not introduce the new colors and still push the black and white. being the black model this year is different from last.
 
For online orders, is the only option to ship to billing address or to the store?

Can you buy online and pick up a phone in stock at the store?

Apple usually does not allow in store pick up for iphones for at least a month after launch....if not longer. You can have it shipped to store like you said, but cannot tap into the stores supply.

If a color wasn't widely available, I would assume Apple would give it a separate date for release (or at the very least, 'soon) much like they did with the white iPhone 4.

Apple Store is far less useless than AT&T. That's for sure.
I would venture to guess the Apple store will have gold iPhones.
 
I highly doubt this - most likely AT&T stores won't be getting gold, and Apple stores will probably get the stock.
