No Heads Up Notifications with Nova Launcher

I'm back to android after a couple years on iOS. I recently put Nova Launcher as the main launcher on my phone, however I don't get heads up notifications. I get a sound and a status bar icon but I have to pull down the notification tray to see the notification. Is there a setting I'm missing or a plug in I need to install?
