I'm trying to retrieve data from my old hard drive by putting it in an enclosure.
Got the right one, hooked it all up and nothing comes up on the desktop.

Tried another old HD and it didn't come up either.

What am I missing?

Does it show up in Finder's Sidebar? Have you checked Disk Utility?
Do you hear some kind of activity from the HDD when you connect it to what specific Mac via what specific port, and what specific Mac OS X version do you use?
What file system do the HDDs use?

Doesn't show up in finder or disk utility.
I can hear the HD spin and click when I turn it on.
Old HD is 10.4 new is 10.6.
Not quite sure what you mean by file system.
I tried firewire and USB.

Don't know why the enclosure didn't work.
Neighbor gave me a power source and another cable to go on the back of the old HD and it worked.

All is good again.
