Will they work for 3GS, too? I believe they will, but some of the comments on here say that it won't, which is making me doubt myself.

But how do you know if the person you're messaging has iMessage?

It says "iMessage" in the text box before you click to enter text and the message bubbles will be blue. Normal SMS is green.

Ah ok. Thanks! I guess none of my friends have updated yet, they're not as geeky as me :)

iMessages has working on my 3GS since the early betas.
Works just fine on the GM/Released version as well.
You have to remember to activate it first. ;)

Okay, so I'm not sure how it started working or anything, but it works perfectly on my 3GS right now.

The only thing I'm concerned about is that... how do I figure out which account it's linked to? I share my current iTunes/App Store account on multiple devices, but not sure if I want that account linked to iMessages.

Settings>Messages>Receive at....

That's odd... if it only has my phone number listed, how is iMessages working for me? I thought you needed an apple ID?

No it can be tied to your phone number and or apple ID.

I have mine set to my phone number and 2 email addresses.

Works in the same way facetime has multiple ID's. You can facetime someone on their mobile number or email address.
