Hoping someone here might be able to educate on me on the following...

Got my Airport Extreme hard wired to my iMac.
I have no internet on my iMac even though it is wired to the router and the router is right next to my iMac.

I do however have internet on my MBP and iPad.

How does this work? If the router or modem were down, then I shouldn't be getting any connection at all, right? I've rebooted both modem and AE and still no internet to my iMac. MBP and iPad though, both work fine.

help?

Have you checked the Network Preferences in System Preferences? It should give you some information about the Ethernet connection. You could also try clicking Assist me... and then click Diagnostics...

Yep, I checked all that. Everything seems to be in working order.
I've turned on/off both router and modem and still no internet to my iMac.
Everything else though (iPad and MBP) seem to work fine.

Have you tried a different cat 5/6 cable? Or maybe a different port on the APE? Highly unlikely, but do you thinking it could be the ethernet port on the iMac? When I run into problems with my internet connection, I disconnect my cable modem and router for about 5 minutes. Then I plug my cable modem back in and wait for all the lights to turn on. Then I plug my APE back in and everything usually works fine. If you're still having problems I would call your service provider and see if they can fix it for you.

Not sure what the problem was.
Let modem/router off for a while, turned back on and like magic... internet.
Took a few tries though.
