iPod "no iPod connected"

My Shuffle is great on my Mac Mini, but not so good on my XP laptop. Even though I get a bubble saying "new hardware detected" when I put the Shuffle in my USB, itunes says there's no ipod connected when I try to get to ipod prefs.

I have itunes 6.0.3 on the XP laptop with ipod update 1-10-06 installed.

Any help?

Try a different USB port. This helped my iPod 3G be detected by iTunes.

This laptop only has 2 and neither make a difference. The odd thing is, when the iPod is in either of them, itunes always says this ipod is connected to another library (on my mac mini) and asks if i want to replace it with this one ... i always say no.

So it kinda recongizes it, but it doesn't?

It charges perfectly on this laptop, but nothing else works.
