No key board volume adjustment on macbook pro (late 2011)

Hi,

I have just noticed on my macbook pro that i have no volume adjustment when using the volume buttons on the key board. When i press the up or down volume button it just shows as being on full volume with a no entry sign underneath. Has anyone got any ideas what might be wrong, could it be something to do with the recent mavericks upgrade.

Do you see red light from headphone jack?

Could it be detecting a microphone or other sort of audio interface? If for some reason it is, the computer might think the volume needs to be controlled by that.

No red light on the headphone jack, but i have just plugged some headphones in to test it and they were working fine, so unplugged them and everything is working fine now, do know why is wasn't working properly before but everything is ok now.
