There was a lot of a buzz about Apple needing a "killer app" for their headset launch to ensure its success, but it doesn't seem like there is one?

Movies - Watching 2D movies on a wide in-headset screen
Disney - 2D Disney movies in VR with occasional 3D scenes (like Avatar)
Sports - Watching 2D games with added 2D/3D analytics layered around the game content
Productivity - Using your usual 2D apps but with the ability have more monitors/windows open

Aren't these already use cases for VR? Even though Apple's execution is better than what is Meta is doing, there doesn't seem to be a compelling killer app/content that differentiates Apple from the rest of VR.

Will there be a killer app before the headset is available next year?

I think the feature where you can just look at your Mac/Macbook display and bring it into AR space, is damn good.

I don’t think it needs a singular killer app for it to be successful. I see it as making some existing experiences more enjoyable or productive. My iPad doesn’t replace my Mac, but there are certain things I enjoy doing on the iPad vs Mac — this will probably be similar. But if I had to pick one area that I am excited about right now, it would be video content.

the apis are available and there will be a dev kit so when it comes out there will probably be over 1000 apps in its App Store

I feel the killer app might be the ability to record spatial video. I know the video clip of that guy wearing the Vision Pro headset to a birthday party might look awkward, but imagine having a recording of said event, and being able to replay it in the headset years later, and still feel like you have travelled years back to that fateful day. Imagine being able to do this for a loved one who has passed away.

I think this alone might justify the $3500 price tag for some people. For them, the killer app would be revolutionising memories, beyond what you can currently do with photos and smartphone videos.
