My find my iPhone app is not functioning for my iPad. I get a no location available error message when I try to find my iPad

The app works fine for locating my iPhone.

I,ve tried all the remedial suggestions i could find online. All my settings appear to be ok.

The one clue I have is that there is no location icon shown in the menu bar of my iPad. (All my locations are turned on in settings.)

When I open the map app on my iPad it shows my location and the location icon shows up. It disappears when I quit the map app.

Any suggestions?
