The typical way to get IM on your ipod touch would be to download installer and then use one of the programs on there. But now, with the launch of the Apps Store, IM is free from the store, which means you don't have to jailbreak your touch - or so I have read (although jailbreaking is still fun and the plethora of options and apps available make it worthwhile anyways). Any one know if it is true that IM is available for free from the Apps Store and if so if it just an AIM client?

:/

Sorry, Only an AIM Client is Currently Avalible, At This Time You Must Jailbreak for G-Talk, Other Jabbers, ICQ, as well as IRC (Which I am Pulling For!)
Sorry Again,
Clayton

Except you have to sign up for a free palringo account and have to have the program running to receive IM's since background processes are taboo.

that's ok for me when i use msn on my touch it's just to see who's on and chat for a sec. when im at home i use my desktop to get my offline messages.

the webapp beejive (beejive.com/iphone) will give you offline messages if needed. it's a webapp but a good sence you got to be online to use it anyways.
