No MacBooks with 16GB of ram in stock?

When configuring an M1, models with 8GB of ram are all in stock and ready for pickup at Apple Stores throughout Los Angeles. But if I wanted to upgrade to 16GB of RAM, not only are there none available at any local Apple Store, but it'll take a month to have one shipped! Does it seem strange that Apple doesn't have any 16GB M1 MacBooks (Air or Pro) in stock?

Is Apple that confident 8GB is more than enough for most people? Or did the 16GB M1 MacBooks shipped to the store for launch all sell out?

With the extra ram not readily available, I convinced myself to grab an 8GB version to see how it handles my workflow.
 
The stores in the Dallas area had 16GB/1TB configurations in stock on Tuesday, but they sold out within a couple of hours, along with the second shipment which was expected on Thursday. I expect the same thing is happening elsewhere.

From what I have read online, for the 16GB model, it is mainly BTO...
 
There's clearly a huge backlog of people wanting 16 GB of RAM.

8 GB is not enough of an Intel Mac, but these are completely different, so...
 
16GB models are in stock but it needs to be 8 core Air with 1TB of storage. All other models are custom to order.
 
I've just got my 8GB RAM M1 MacBook Pro. I'm a bit confused re the 8 vs 16 RAM? For me, I don't do any photo editing or gaming so 8GB should be enough shouldn't it? All working fine at the moment but future proofing? I'm not so sure?

Yup. I noticed the same. I ordered 16gb with 512hd, 8 core, and I got a "3-5 weeks" for estimated delivery.
 
A friend of mine works at an Apple Store. If there are less than 3 in inventory the online inventory will not show it.
Just he has that his store had a 16GB 1TB gold air but when looking online it did not show that his store had any available to pick up.
 
What’s the chance on getting orders early than stated? Don’t Apple deliver earlier? I k ow I got my Apple Watch series 6 a week earlier.
 
Had to order my 8/512. Only 8/256 were in stock 2 weeks ago. Took a week to get mine shipped to me.
