why doesnt this site have a marketplace? id expect such a big and popular mac forum to have one.

It's here. You need 250 posts to be able to access it, and as you have only just passed that threshold it may take a few hours before you can see it.

The MR Guides hold lots of useful tidbit of information ;) Its beneficial for new (and not so new) members to review the rules and guidelines.

So I got my account activated and have more than 250 post. I can't access the market! What now?
You'll reach 180 days on January 8, 2012. The forum system will give you access to the Marketplace forum on that day. The process is entirely automatic.

why such huge limitations? whenever you put limitations on something like that it fails... I can see maybe putting a 180 day or 250 count on people who want to list something. but right now your just limiting potential buyers. If I come across MR today because im curious about buying my first mac, Why can i not purchase a nice used one on here from one of our members? i have to wait 6 months and post 250 times? makes no sense..

BTW i have been here almost 3 years and 192 post (3 years and I still cant buy anyhting)

Since there seem to be still many users not reading the rules and FAQ, why not include the avatar and MarketPlace requirements to the registration process?

Limiting potential buyers isn't a concern. The Marketplace is an extra, it's not a main feature of the forum. The site is primarily for Apple-related news, rumors, and for getting help in the forums.

It sounds like you're after a site more dedicated to buying/selling.

Be patient.

I got my 15'' Powerbook G5 in the Marketplace for only $30, so it's worth the wait.

Sometimes rare items do pop up, like the iPhone 4 +1 that sold there for about $150 last month.

There used to be no limitation. Then they had issues with scammers and such, so they put the limitation in to stop that.

Send me your account info. I'll have that post issue fixed in a jiffy. :p

I have my 250 posts and have been a member for more than 180 days and I still can't get into the Marketplace.
It takes a little while after you meet the qualifications. Be patient.
If your post count reaches a total that entitles you to a new forum privilege, such as uploading and avatar or using the Marketplace forum, the new privilege may not take effect immediately. It will work by the following day at the latest.

Duff-Man says...I think that if in that period of time from when you join the forum and become eligible for the marketplace that you've not found the time to read the faq and forum rules, and see that the marketplace has been debated to death, and yet still create yet another thread about it....you ought to have your eligibility criteria automatically doubled....oh yeah! ;)
