I've noticed over the last week that I have had several people call me where the call only shows up in Voicemail. The phone doesn't ring and I don't have a missed call badge, just a voicemail and a voicemail notification. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Ya, I've had this happen - can't tell if it's the phone or the network, though.

Maybe try rebooting your phone, to be on the "safe side"?

ive had this happen a couple of times. its usually because the phone drops signal right as some one trys to call and goes straight to voice mail. its not really a missed call as the phone never rang.

It's a network problem. The phone isn't receiving a strong 3G signal. I have this problem and have to leave 3G turned off when I'm home. Did many field tests (dial *3001#12345#* call)and watched how many times the 3G signal is around -75 to -95 in northern NJ.(-50 is perfect/ -95 is no signal) Even though I'm showing 5 bars, my signal strength is at -89 and "could not activate cellular data network" or make calls (call fail).

Speaking of missed calls is it possible to just delete certain calls in the missed and recent phone log instead of deleting all calls?

i wish. hopefully :apple: will add that feature or make it so u can view just incoming or outgoing or missed and delete each seperate call list.

If you're in a dead zone, calls get sent directly to voicemail. You don't receive a missed call notification because the call technically never made it to your phone.

Not a dead zone. I called my phone after I noticed the VM and it went through.

this happened to me a few times when I owned a blackberry with verizon. it wasnt a constant thing so I could not replicate it. just like a rare thing.

So ATT is not alone in that respect.

Were you on the move or in the same place at the time the person called and left the voicemail?

Was at the same place. Siting at my desk at work. I'm taking it down to have a genius look at it bc I'm having sporadic network connectivity with Safari

Weird. I get between -89 and -93 and my calls go through just fine.

Hell, I just went into field test mode and had -95 and then immediately tried to connect to the internet and it worked.

So I went to the genius bar yesterday and walked away shaking my head. After inspecting my phone for a few minutes and running some form of diagnostic on my phone he comes back and tells me there's a few potential issues.

1.) Apparently the wetness indicator on the bottom of my phone was red. I wasn't aware that there was an indicator in the bottom where you plug in the adaptor. When I mentioned that I was in South Carolina where the temperature difference between being inside and outside resulted in some fogging on my screen and asked if that could trip it I was told no. I debated politely with him a bit on this as the iphone isn't a "sealed" phone but he was insistant that wouldn't trip it.

2.) This is what shocked me. Apparently I have two applications that they (Apple) knows interfere with the radio signal according to this genius. The offending apps? That would be Twitterfon and The Weather Channel. Seriously? After some pushing on the genius about these supposed known flaws I just walked away. I want to believe he picked two random apps but I don't honestly know. Regardless this was the first time I walked away from the Genius bar thinking WTF.

If you have an Edge data connection active calls will go straight to voicemail. This includes email checking in the background, if it happens to be checking when someone calls.

Happens ALL THE TIME here. Both on Edge and 3g (Grand Haven, MI/Muskegon FINALLY got 3g!)

Also alot of times, although I have 5 bars all day, the instant I try to make a call, it loses service and says 'searching'. I know it had service right up until I hit the call button because i was using data or whatnot. Then it will sit there and say searching, or no service for 10-15 minutes.
