No more push gmail?

Looks like gmail killed off exchange/activesync/sync. I just restored my phone from backup and now I cannot get my mail. Is there only solution to use the gmail app (which doesn't work with any separate apps), for push gmail?

Are there any work arounds? Thanks in advance.

It was announced months ago. You should be grandfathered in with your same device. A new phone would not work.
So I'm not sure why it is not working for the same phone.
