I can’t get more than 60Hz on my oled monitor via HDMI port. Unless I set 1080p what is ridiculous. Doesn’t matter what adapter I am using. I tried even 8K adapter. Still nothing. DisplayPort works fine but I wanted to use this port for my gaming PC.
Do you have any idea what to do?

Please provide details about your MBP's model number and release year and your television's make and model number, including which HDMI port on the television you are connecting to. Without this info, nobody will have any idea what to do.

Who said I am using TV? Beside I think I found the problem. There is no need to think about monitor tv or port. That’s apples fault because they didn’t care enough about hdmi and they don’t support more than 60Hz via hdmi in m1.

"...they don’t support more than 60Hz via hdmi in m1."

Which is what it has always said in Apple's documentation. Caveat Emptor.

"HDMI digital video output
  • Support for one display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz"

I tried to find that and one and only info is 6K up to 60Hz. I thought that 1440p with more Hz shouldn’t be a problem. Still that’s ridiculous. Only Apple can do things like that. We don’t support it because we don’t care.

That's actually due to the limitation of HDMI 2.0. You can read the Wikipedia artical about that. In order to show pictures without color distorion, Apple uses Chroma sampling of 4:4:4 which requires more bandwidth. 4K with refresh rate of over 60Hz would have exceeded the available bandwidth.

As an alternative solution, you may use a good quality USB-C to HDMI adapter to achieve 120Hz with 4K. There are extensive disucssion about that in this thread.

No, that is not the reason why. The reason is that the HDMI port on the M1 supports the HDMI 2.0 standard. This has a maximum of 4K60 4:4:4 8-bit.

Apple took HDMI connector out of the MacBook altogether and then brought it back, because professional users needed connectivity to TV sets and conference room projectors. In subsequent versions of Apple silicon, Apple upgraded to the HDMI Version 2.1, which could support 8K resolution. It’s just not in your MacBook Pro model, that’s all.

There is few 2.0 standards because hdmi 2.0 from most tv support 4k 60Hz and 120hz in 1440p. So still that’s apple decision. Let’s be honest. M1 isn’t that oled. In 2021 we should be able to get 120hz in lower resolution.
