However I was driving my wife's car this week and needed to connect the phone to the head unit (Alpine CDE-178BT https://www.alpine.co.uk/p/Products/SingleView/CDE-178BT)

When selecting the source as USB the head unit then started playing songs from my phone. I couldn't understand it - that's when i checked in settings and i have no songs on my phone.

Just wondering how on earth it was able to access my songs.

I'm not fluent in the world of iTunes and syncing if i'm honest so i'm sure there's an obvious explanation to some.

One of your streaming music apps? Apple Music does that to me, plays anything in my library (downloaded or not) if I don’t select a playlist or something on my phone.

Yeah i think it was using the stock Music app but i'm wondering how it was able to access it.

Unless it was using mobile data. But then again thinking about it, i was parked on my drive testing something out so it may have even been connected to my home WiFi.
